Effective Perception

Our personal perceptions affect our business relationships.

Years ago, I remember hearing author Stephen Covey share a story about sitting on the train and being affected by some ill behaved kids and their non-engaged father. Covey found himself judging the situation until he learned that the man’s wife had just died. At this point the situation became clearer. This story has been a great guide for my life. When I’m at work, I remind myself that I never really know what is happening in a co-worker’s or boss’s personal world. Broadening my perception and leaving space for the unknown, creates greater understanding and makes for clearer personal interactions and business relationships.
