The yawn is excellent for speakers. Yawn happily and fully. I’ll suggest perhaps not in front of your intended audience – but most definitely before.
A good yawn stretches the articulators, creates space in the mouth, connects your breath and feels good. And new studies suggest it does not show boredom, but instead is about cooling the brain. I just took a wonderful voice workshop led by our colleague Robin Carr, based on Lessac’s work. We were reminded that using the voice should feel good – and it can start with a good yawn. Yawn, stretch, get the cobwebs out and awaken to spring – let your voice be heard!
