Toss Old Habits & Make Room for New – ARTiculate: Real&Clear

It’s a new year. Good time to clear out what’s not working. Bags of clothes and lightly used items show up at our local thrift stores.  We are clearing out stuff. Either we got newer, better fitting things, or we decided to lighten our load. The new sweater makes you feel great.  The old one, eh,  it doesn’t make you feel awesome.

Toss, donate, give away, and show up clearer and feeling more like yourself.

Same with our communication techniques.

How we communicate, all the little elements, need to be in alignment with who we are now, today and going into the new year.

Sometimes we hang on to communicating in a way that worked in our old position, our old job, when we were younger, when we were trying to come across a certain way. Assess yourself. What’s working for you still? Where do you feel less effective or that you’re coming across differently than you intend?

On the surface:

  • Let go of a tone you thought was effective but doesn’t feel right anymore.
  • Let go of closed body positions that don’t allow folks to see you.
  • Let go of playing small by staying seated or not speaking up.
  • Let go of not being loud enough.
  • Let go of dismissive words and not getting to the point.
  • What else?

Beneath:

  • Let go of the belief that playing small lets others feel comfortable around you.
  • Let go of playing safe when you know you want to speak up.
  • Let go of moving too carefully and missing opportunities.
  • Let go of being disappointed that people don’t ask you what you are thinking.
  • What else?

And now, bravely allow yourself to feel the relief, the lightness, the connectedness that comes from

  • Remaining physically open.
  • Using your full voice.
  • Succinctly sharing your ideas.
  • Being your whole, powerful, amazing self.

Toss out the old–the habits that are no longer serving you:

Be Real and Be Clear — the ART of being your own amazing self when and as you choose.
