When I’m standing at the copier and noticing that the black and white copies are beginning to fade into nothingness, my first question is always, “who’s responsible for the toner?”
When I am communicating with others, guess what? I am responsible for the toner! My vocal inflection and tone will color everything. Even if I’m not upset specifically with the person in front of me – they may think that I am because of my tone of voice.
In the office, out in public, and even with our friends and family, it is always good to keep a check on our tone of voice. Know that people will read into it even though it may have nothing to do with them. This can cause miscommunication and a stressful interaction or relationship. So, remember, if our tone of communication begins to shift like the toner in a copier, we are responsible for the toner… and it may be time for a vacation!
