Shape Shifters

Verbal communication can take the form of many shapes and sizes. Sometimes our communication shows up in the form of a square, sometimes a triangle, or even an octagon, etc. Regardless of the shape or size, a square peg will never fit into a round hole. Right?

So what do we do? We can attempt to make our communication style like the round hole, shaving off the edges of our real self in order to conform. Many people lose themselves at work, trying to fit into the cultural norm. We could assume that we are the only one having this difficulty, OR we can discover what it is like to communicate the part of us that fits over the round hole. We don’t have to fit in. If we demonstrate this communication technique, others will notice and follow.

Ultimately, no one needs to lose the offering of her/his individual insights that they bring to the workforce. We can maintain our identity while communicating in a way that others can hear – and notice.
